The Assessment Hand-in Date
for the level 3, DV3100 Graphic Design
Will be on Thursday 16th May. From 10.30 – 16.00.
We will take the work in,
in the 3rd year Teaching space (Room
1.49) from 10.30am on that Day
No Work will be accepted for Assessment after 18.00pm
•All work has to be available and has to
be easily identified for marking – make sure that you submit portfolios clearly
labelled by each module
•DO NOT submit TWO modules in ONE
portfolio
•If your work for one
module has boxed or mixed elements or is
submitted as a portfolio and has books and journals separately – label EACH and
spend time putting these together AS ONE secure, identified package
•Modules will have supporting
documentation, drawing books, texts and DVD/USBs so include and prepare the
preparatory work, edit it and photocopy if necessary any documentation that you
have. All working and development work is important and it will be expected to be seen during
the assessment and referred to when marking the work. The presentation
of this is
as significant as
the final pieces
•Staff marking your practice will include:
TF with Dan Duran, Ed Gill, Matthew Bucknall and
the external examiner, Amelia Johnstone, will review the overall process of
marking in Graphic Design; the examiner may see several of you, having reviewed
the work that you have had assessed by the team
•The timing of her visit will be in the
second week following the hand-in
•The Examiner will need to review some
students and discuss with them their work – this should not be a daunting
process and you should not feel that this ‘means’ anything. Part of her role is
to get to know the Course and its students, and the new staff team, as well as
you individually; how we do things…
•You need to be able to be contacted by mobile or by e-mail during the week beginning
20th May. Make sure this is clearly visible
on the labelling of your work
•You may be called in to attend a meeting
with the external – but
all of you must be available. This
is usually organised over one day. It would be expected that about 8-9 students
might be seen – many of you may have met Amelia when she called in before
Easter.
•The process is that we always co-mark modules; more than one assessor
is present and the protocol is that the two or more tutors involved, review and
discuss the material seen and what they know of the development of the brief
for your final major. Then we cross-reference a sample of the levels of
achievement, once the internal marks are prepared - then discuss between
ourselves and refer, if necessary to other members of the team –Jonathan, Stephen etc
•The independent and the collective view
is part of the complete process
We
will work to assess your module submissions ready for Friday 24th May, to collect
You
will need to work upon your exhibition spaces and the work needs to be prepared
for exhibition. The RR space will become one
of two
exhibition areas used for Graphics end of year show
The
exhibition opens on the 30th May and
the external will be here on 29th
to review both a folio submission from some of you and to view work going up on
30th in the morning
All
workbooks and PDP material should be together
An
exhibition committee will be formed from within the final cohort and the staff
team co-ordination will be by Matt Bucknall, Dan Duran, Stephen Barrett and Tim
Foster
You
will be issued with a short list of needs to identify, in terms of your work
and the form it will take; a show reel
of moving image work will be put together to exhibit as part of the overall GD
show – you may arrange for individual work to be shown by negotiation with the
team and the agreement of your peers on the Ex. Committee
